Aberfood@ Malaysia, Big Apple Donuts and Coffee!

Big apple donuts and coffee....

Dear readers, I am currently having my Christmas holiday in the capital of food , MALAYSIA!!

However, my first stop in malaysia wasn't something your guys will think about, it's the Big Apple Donuts and Coffee , which opened recently in the shopping mall near me....

What is nice about malaysia is that the food here are extremely cheap and i get a donut and a coffee for RM4.50 which is about 70P after converting back to the GBP.....

Donuts was as good as everyone talking about, glacier donuts better than others outlets can offer, however, the donuts was a bit small in serving...

What really suprised me was the coffee being served there....Never thought that they will served the world famous Illy coffee bean and to be honest it goes well with the donut...

That's all for the day, watched out for I will constantly update about the food here all the way from malaysia....

Christmas Dinner @ Tides

Recently went to Tides opposite the pier for Christmas dinner with 3 course meal...
The restaurant has good ambience and nicely decorated for the Christmas season, the service was good, we got a separate room for all the people to be sitted together in a nice little room, however the food wasn't really as anticipated, but nevertheless a good attempt to impress the critique.

Starter: Smoked salmon roulade with water cress & caper berry salad

One of the best starter except that the portion is relatively small, fresh smoked salmon...

Main Course: Roast turkey with pancetta wrapped chipolata & chestnut & cranberry stuffing

Turkey is well roasted, moderate gravy with it, stuffing was good, Cauliflower Cheese was too wet, prefarably to be more cheesy....

For the dessert, I had a Christmas Pudding Flamed with Brandy in White Sauce, it is just some normal piece of dessert and nothing special can be said of it...

The Christmas dinner is always about the people you eat with and it often make the food irrelevant anymore, because what we enjoyed was the time spent together at the festive seasons...
However, it is not the excuse for the food to be under par of a modest restaurant standard...

This restaurant found a good balance between the two, private room with least intervention from the staffs yet helpful when approached really make them outstanding from others, but from the food perspective, still a big improvement to be made!

Service 7/10
Food 5/10
Overall rating 6.5/10

Dining experience at Restaurant Shilam

Essential things about a restaurant is always about the ambience, food, service , customers and price....Some people might have different ideas as to which one is of the most important elements, but for me, it's always the food....

I recently visited the Restaurant Shilam which served Indian food as well like Spice of Bengals in my previous post, but what really stands out one restaurant with another is those elements I mentioned...My first visit to Shilam was trying for their afternoon all-day buffet for GBP5.95 with a limited selection of curry with rice and naan bread. It was a pleasing experience as the price goes well with the quality of food and service....

This time, I went to the restaurant with friends for it's dinner, my personal have to be the lamb specialty which the waiter told us that the cooking style is out of menu.... I will said it as Chef Specialty then.... The curry is one of the finest I have ever tasted in UK so far, and different dishes provide us with different taste of indian spices....Compliment to the chef...

About service, the waiter is polite and better in conversation and had no problem understanding our orders.. By recommending something off menu is a brave move by a waiter because he will not be sure whether the customers will like his choices or not...Yet confidence at their own chef make it a pleasant surprise for the customers with different taste...

However, one small problems to be overcome is that the skill of cooking proper Naan...
The cheese and onion naan taste good, but it's just too hard to bite and some of us to swallowed it...

Food 7/10 , currys are good, just that improvement needed on Naan bread...
Service 7/10 bold move by the waiter to suggest something off menu, and efficient in serving us...

Food in TaMed Da

This is the biggest eateries on Aberystwyth Univesity campus, been satisfied with the food always...
This afternoon went to have lunch with friends after basketball, again the food which is fish in batter was ok and at reasonable price for me....For 3.2 pound is considerably worth it for fish and chips.....

BUT
The main argument of the day is not about the food, is one of the workers there..She is rather sensitive and wasn't friendly at all the moment we stepped into the restaurant, didn't greet us, but come to us directly and warned us not to eat outside food in the restaurant only because my friend was holding a bag from the food fair....Then it was my turn....I accidentally pass by some area which is not supposed to pass by, and trying find a way out ASAP, she then start shouted at me and ask me not to step into the no entry area, BUT only after I come out from there...

Food here are nice...workers often friendly except this women...Try to avoid her next time....

Service 4/10 just for today , is always above 7 withouth the women...
Food 7/10 reasonable food at reasonable price, couldn't ask for more....Dessert is nice as well...

Spice of Bengals!

For those who study in Aberystwyth University should have heard about Spice of Bengals near the 24 hrs Spar...

Today, I went to the restaurant with some of my friends who are visiting us from Manchester, we are being nice to treat her to the Indian restaurant in the town which we thought it would be nice...However, it turns to be a disaster....

I have to say the service is not efficient and the waiter there don't seem like understand our language, secondly long serving time, we ordered 5 dishes and some naan bread, but it takes us more than half an hour waiting for the food to be served...

We might be thinking that it will worth the wait if the food being served are heavenly....
However, the curry is not good at all, expensive and small serving portions, the only one I prefer is a sweet coconut king prawns, which i think is called tandoori masal king prawns specialty....

The long wait made some of my friend nearly lose their temper and therefore don't really enjoy the meal!

For me, this will be the first and last visit to the restaurant!

Overall rating 3/10

Don't bother trying in this restaurant!
